Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Located in the southeastern corner of Germany, Nationalpark Berchtesgaden is the only Alpine national park in the country. It covers over 81 square miles of diverse landscapes, from rugged mountain ranges of the Berchtesgaden Alps to the tranquil waters of Lake Königssee. The park was established in 1978 and serves as a sanctuary for unique flora and fauna, including golden eagles and marmots. The park is crisscrossed by a network of trails that provide access to popular landmarks such as the Watzmann, the third highest peak in Germany, and the picturesque Jenner Mountain. In addition to its remarkable natural features, the park holds historical significance, with remnants of traditional alpine settlements and the presence of the Kehlsteinhaus, commonly known as the Eagle's Nest, a significant site from World War II. Visitors to the park can enjoy activities like hiking, mountain biking, and winter sports, while also engaging in photography amidst its breathtaking scenery.
